A Leather Portrait Photoshoot

I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to work with Carmen on my idea for a series called A Leather Portrait. A Leather Portrait is a series that focuses on the eyes of the person within the photo. The photo certainly has a fetish theme but the main focus is the eyes of the person behind the mask. Carmen is an amazing and creative model located in Chicago who was nice enough to work with on this project. Her Instagram can be found here, and links to her websites can be found here. Make sure to stop by and give her a follow.

These photos were shot in both digital and 35mm film. I am always able to complete the digital version of the series prior to receiving the final photos back from the lab. When you put them side by side I love the colors of the digital photos a bit more then the film but love the overall look and texture of the film photos more. Up first is the digital versions.

Next up is the film versions. We used ILFORD 400 shot on a Pentax Spotmatic II and a mix of 50mm and 85mm focal lengths. The film was sent of to Richards photo lab for development and scanning. There is something about natural film grain that can’t be reproduced on a digital camera. I hope to continue to use more film in the near future.

It was amazing working with Carmen to develop this idea and shoot. I look forward to continuing to develop this series in the future.
